A Brief History of the Crown Victoria Association

In May of 1977 Toby Gorny ran the following ad:
"Ford Crown Victoria owners wanted; compiling roster of owners; send your name, address, car information. Roster will be sent to you free."

In September 1977 Mick Moore ran the following ad in HMN:
"Crown Victoria 1955-1956 anyone wishing to help start association write; all letters answered."

Toby and Mick set up a meeting at the Hoosier Swap Meet in Indianapolis in September 1977. Agreeing that two clubs were not needed, they combined their rosters and proceeded to get the Crown Victoria Association underway. The first roster was printed July 28, 1977, and had 48 names on it. The first newsletter was January/February issue - 1978. The first convention was held August 10-12, 1979, in Rockton, Illinois at the Wagon Wheel Resort.

The first club officers were elected at this convention; they were: President Toby Gorny; Vice President Tom Drummond; and Secretary-Treasurer Sandy Dean. The editor of the newsletter was Toby Gorny and the printing of the newsletter was done by Gorny-Winzeler Printing. The first roster had 48 names on it. Now, the roster has over 2,700 names, from every state and 14 different countries.

In January 2014 Mick Moore ran the following ad in the FoMoCo Times:
"Since our club was founded in 1977 there have been some minor changes agreed upon by Toby and I, none bigger than including all 1954-1955-1956 Fords not just the Crown Victoria.  We also changed our convention dates from weekends (Fri, Sat, and Sun) to start on Monday instead.  I think we would all agree these changes have helped our club grow to what it is today.  With that in mind, Toby and I along with the Board of Directors are happy to announce that we have decided to include the 1954-1955-1956 Mercurys and 1954-1955-1956 Ford trucks.  Beginning Jan 1, 2014, we will have both Mercurys and Ford trucks printed on our convention registration.  So this year at the Convention in Middleton, WI we can expect to see a few more Ford produced vehicles.  We would also like to point out that like anything new, we will have one class for all of the 1954-1955-1956 Mercurys as well as one class for the 1954-1955-1956 Ford trucks.  If any of these vehicles are modified, they will still go into one class.  Other classes may be added later depending on how many of the Mercurys and Trucks attend future conventions.  We hope you will agree with this decision and look forward to seeing them in the future."
